John Lusk was born circa 1705 at Augusta County, Virginia. He was the son of Nathan Lusk and Unknown Elizabeth. John Lusk married Mira Hays before 1725 at Augusta County, Virginia. John Lusk died circa 1751.
John Lusk Evidently John Lusk died in the fall of 1751. In Order Book 3, p age 183, Augusta County, VA, we have this entry: '28 August 175 1 Robert Lusk chose AndrewHays Guardian.' In Will Book I, pag e 384, we find: '28 August 1751, Andrew Hays bond as guardian to Robert Lusk, orphan of John Lusk, appoi nted.' JohnLusk apparently died intestate as I cannot find a will. I f ound a will of James Lusk which seems to solve our problem: '7 M arch 1774, James Lusk's will, yeoman - to brother William, lan d in Forks of James; to brother Robert - Teste: James Snodgrass , James Montgomery, George Weir. Proved 16 August 1774 by witness.' (Augusta Co., VA Deed Book 5 , page 252) We can assume Robert Luskwas the minor son when John Lusk die d and other sons were James and William. (Ancestors & Friends - A History & Genealogy by William Lusk Cra wford, Sr.) When John Lusk died he left a son named Robert Lusk. Robert Lus k was called the nephew in the will of John Hays. (From manuscript 'The Lusk Family' compiled by Dale A. Johnson 1 989) 1751: Robert Lusk, Jr. chooses Andrew Hays as guardian. (Will Bo ok 1, page 384). Robert Lusk, Jr. believed to be the sonof Joh n mentioned in Nathan Lusk's will in 1749. Robert Lusk, Jr. is c alled nephew in the will of John Hays. (From manuscript 'The Lus k Family' sent byJune Shipley).

Nathan Lusk was born circa 1698 at Ulster, Ireland or Scotland. He was the son of John Lusk. Nathan Lusk married Unknown Elizabeth circa 1701. Nathan Lusk died on 14 September 1748 at Rockbridge, Virginia.
Nathan Lusk Joseph Lusk listed as the father of a Nathan Lusk born about 168 2 in Ireland. Married to an Elizabeth. Son named James born abou t 1710. (From FHL Ancestral Files) The Lusk family was Scotch-Irish and apparently came to Americ afrom the Ulster Province of Ireland. There is a manuscript i n the Archives of Nashville, TN that states that they arrived i n Lancaster County, PA and that William Lusk, Sr. and William Lusk, Jr. were living there as early as 1730 . I do not have evidence of their actual arrival in Lancaster Co unty. However, we have the following Lusk's listed as warrantee s of land in Chester County, PA: John Lusk, 200 acres, 18 Septem ber 1736; Robert Lusk, 50 acres, 20 February 1739; 211 acres , 7 February 1742 and William Lusk, 20 acres, 22 May 1745. (PA A rchives Series III, Vol. 24, p.84-85) There seems to be no question that Nathan Lusk of Augusta County , VA was a brother of John and William Luskof Chester County, P A. Also, I believe Robert Lusk of Chester County, PA wasa broth er of John, William and Nathan Lusk. It is very possible that otherancestral families of our are rel ated, or at least close friends, in Ulster Province. The Matthew s, Archer, Lusk, Crawford, Vance, Renick and Colvills arrived ab out the same time in western Virginia and Augusta County. They all settled on the Shenandoah River and nea r the forks of the James. The Lusk's either settled on the Bever ly Manor, Borden's Grant or nearby. The first Lusk's to settle in Augusta County, VA were Nathan an d John. The muster rolls of Augusta County for 1742 indicate the y were in Captain Wilson's Company. (Preston Papers, State Histo rical Society of Wisconsin) Prior to 1746, Nathan Lusk obtained property as we find this ent ry: '21 August 1746, Samuel McCutchenand Frances, his wife to J ames Shields, Cordwinder, etc. - corner to Nathan Lusk adjoinin g patent line of Beverly Manor.' (Augusta County Records, Deed Book I, p. 159) 'To the high Sheriff of the county - executed by me John Edwards , 2 September 1746. Matthew Young bond (with Nathan Lusk (Loosk ) and James (mark) Asebury) for appearance at next court. Signed , sealed and acknowledged before us: James Paton, John Buchanan , John Willson.' (Chalkley, Augusta County, VA Records, Vol. I , p. 530) The final information we have concerning Nathan Lusk of August a County, VA : '14 September 1748 - Nathan Lusk's will- wife: E lizabeth; sons: John and James; daughter: Agness, wife of Mathe w Young. Executor: son, James. Teste: Pat Martin, Patrick Cook, Martha Martin. Proved 16 February 1748 b y Patrick and Martha Martin.' (Augusta County, VA Will Book I, p . 118) (ANCESTORS & FRIENDS - A History and Genealogy by WilliamLusk C rawford, Sr.) 13 May 1749 - Will Book 1, page 153 - Nathan Lusk's inventory an d appraisement by John Shields, Saml. McCutchen and Robt. Robins on. (Chronicles of the Scotch Irish settlement in Virginia Volum e III p. 12) Nathan Lusk owned land in Beaverly Manor, Virginia in 1746. Nath an and John Lusk served with Captain John Wilson's company durin g the French and Indian War of 1742. Nathan Lusk's will was probated on 16 February 1748 and it is re corded in the Will Records Book on page 118 at Augusta County, V A. Executor:James Lusk, son. Testors: Pat and Martha Martin n x Patrick Cook. Proved by Pat and Martha Martin. The will names his wife, Elizabeth and children: John, A gnes and James as recipients of the property.
