John Hawkins' company of Tennessee militia. About th e year 1835 he located in the Red Hill Valley in Bradley county , eleven miles south of Cleveland,where he spent the remainder o f his life. He died Feb. 3, 1873. He and his wife and his father , Joseph Lusk I, sleep in the familylot on the old Lusk homeste ad in Bradley county. During the war, Mr. Lusk was all uncompromising Union man, fearl ess in defense of his political convictions and of his propert y rights. His courage and steadfastness had numerous tests durin g the course of hostilities. Early in the war the Confederate authorities of the county issue d orders to all Union men to surrender their firearms. A squad w as sent to Mr. Lusk to take his guns, but he showed so determine d a front that they left rather hurriedly without accomplishing their errand. On another occasion a band o f guerrillas raided his farm for the purposeof taking his few r emaining horses. In a pitched battle with them, he killedone an d put others to flight, leaving the horses and their dead companion. This placed him in a dangerous position a s his opponents were still in possession of the county. A few ni ghts later a large party burned his house and made a determine d effort to find and kill him. Shortly afterwards the Union forc es moved in and he was thereafter protected. Notes for JAMES LUSK: Will of James Lusk Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania written: 12 Feb. 1845 In the name of God amen, I James Lusk of the Township of Cascad e in the county of Lycoming and the Stateof Pennsylvania being feeble in body but of perfect sound mind an d memory do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. To wit. First, I bequeat h my soul to God who gave it. Second, It is will that after my decease my body be decently intered in a Christain lik e manner.I give and bequeath unto my five childred, Eleanor Border, May Green, Elizabeth Brewer, John Lusk and Samue l Lusk the sum of two dollars each to be paid to them or to their legal representatives in one year after my dece ase by my executors. Fourth I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Catherine, the farm on which I now live, togethe r with all the personal property now in my possession to have and to hold during her natural life and at her decease i t is mywill that the aforesaid farm and all personal property thereon be sold and the proceeds there of divided amon g my ten children, Sarah Bonell, Martha Lusk,James Lusk, Henry Lusk, George W. Lusk, Abraham Lusk, William Lusk, Ja ne Lusk, Angeline B. Lusk, and Robert Lusk, share and share alike. Fifth, It is my will that out of the port ion due me from Elizabeth Lusk, desc., my just debtsand funeral expenses be paid by my executors, as soon as sufficien t funds shall come into their hands. And next that my executors shall out of said portion pay the purchase money and g et from John Marshall Esq. the deed for the above mentioned farm. Sixth, It is my will that the one third of the o verplus of my said portion be given to my beloved wife, Catherine, and the balance be divided among my ten childred las t above mentioned, share and share alike, asthey arrive respectively at the age of twenty-one years, together with the l awful interest which may arise on the said legacies and one year from the time of my decease. Seventh, It is my wish tha t all the children which are yet under age remain with their mother if possible, and if necessary that she draw the int erest of their shares for assistance in their support. Eighth, I do appoint my esteemed friend, Samuel Bodine, and my s on-in-law, Abraham I. Bonnell, Executors of this my last Will and Testament.
