Lemuel M. Montgomery REFN20070Be. He REFN: 3436Be [Montgo~1.ftw] Excerpts from a letter of Grace Wright Carver: Lemuel M. Montgomery built a big log house around 1840 on the land that was called the 'Old Drew Place. Between Grace Carver's place and Clarence Montgomery's farm. He raised two families in it. The log house was a typical pioneer style home at that time with a chimney at one end with two half windows , one on each side and a door in the back. There was a door in the front that opened on a small porch, a door was opposite the chimney and a door in the back. A lean to room for a kitchen was added later, and a room to the end, a stairway to the loft which was a large room for the children to sleep and for storing potatoes in the winter. I do not know what became of the old house. Thomas Wallace, Mary Selina's father, owned a house at the corner of the Cloverdale Road and the Jim Olive Road. It was located in the Fairview Community. He would cut limbs off of a thorn tree and put them on the fence to let them dry out and stop people from climbing the fence to get to his fruit trees. I remember as a young boy riding the school bus to Central High. That house was also log with a dog run on it. It faded the south and there were somecedar trees around the house. Sometime around the late 30's or early 40's, my Uncle Virgil May raised cotton on the north side of this land. As to who owned it at that time I don't know. Lemuel bought property in AL and TN Oct. 21, 1851 200 acres from A. G. McDougal Oct 21, 1851 125 ' '' ' ' Nov 1867 200 acres from A. G. McDougal Feb 15, 1870 20 acres from J.
